Airfix 1/48 I Junkers Ju87B Stuka I Full Video Build I
Long time no see!
Apologies for taking so long to bring you my latest build vid. The @OfficialAirfix Stuka on the face on it is an excellent model kit but as the video shows, I had real trouble with the wing assembly. I would be interested if anyone else had this issue.
Anyway, apart from that its a nice kit, quite complicated though. I wouldn't recommend this for a beginner, this kit is for an experienced modeller.

Eduard 1/48 I Westland Lysander MkIII I Full Build I
Переглядів 14 тис.7 місяців тому
Welcome to my video build of Eduard's Westland Lysander. This is a re-box of the Gavia kit from 2001, this boxing was issued around 2011. It does look very early Eduard, so you make up your own mind if Eduard was behind this all along. No real vices but care has to be taken as its showing its age somewhat. Its currently the only 1/48 scale kit of this really important and unusual aeroplane.

    David R Lentz, Columbus, Ohio, USA Well, Tim, you certainly made an excellent job of it. Appropriately subtle in application, yet eminently effective in appearance. Perhaps you next might create an airborne diorama dramatising the USMC aviator Lt. “Bob” Klingman on high-altitude patrol in his Chance Vought F4U-1D Corsair Fighter (Tamiya also offers the perfect kit for that part of the job!), in the struggle to intercept at very high altitude a Mitsubishi Ki-46 Imperial Japanese Army Type 100 twin-engine command reconnaissance aircraft, Allied brevity code name “Dinah.” Because all six of the bent-winged warbird’s M2 Browning .50-caliber machine guns had frozen for the bitter cold of high altitude, he resorted to using just the propeller of his aircraft to buzz-saw off the rudder of his dodgy enemy, abruptly sending the nosy sod out of control, to plunge into the roiling seas just off the coast of his island base (sources: “Marine Corps pilot Robert ‘Bob’ Klingman took down enemy using his propeller”, By Team Mighty [We Are The Mighty, Military News posted Wednesday, 8 February, 2023, 7:16 a.m. PST]; Wikipedia: Mitsubishi Ki-46 IJA Type 100 twin-engine scout aircraft).

    16:30 just cut this snake in 2-3 smaller pieces and then adjust em on surface. this really helps with big decals. in general, when you have L, cut it to I and _ its much easier to put em back together(I + _ = L) than to struggle with one piece

    I flew this aircraft as part of my National Service pilot training 1951-1953, moving on from single engine (Chipmunks) to Airspeed Oxfords for asymetrc flying. We flew them solo (RAF Dalcross. Inverness) in preparation for our conversion to Meteors (which I failed). My memory was that in no circumcstanaces were we to get into a spin, as this aircraft could not recover. The escape hatch was in the roof towards the rear of the fuselage. You were supposed to get out of you seat and climb to the back with the aid of a rope along the ceiling. In short, pretty well zero chance! I survived and will shortly reach my 91st birthday.

    Stukas you can shove matey but a cracking job all the same. I guess when you are dealing with hot plastic cooling and ever more (rightfully) discerning modellers nothing will ever be perfect. I am slowly re warming to Airfix Tim. I suspect that their idea of using wing spars rather than simple plug ins does complicate things slightl, but it should produce more accurate geometry. Nice job with the weathering. Really nice. Spent time in't desert myself and nothing stays intact for long. Interested to know pound for pound just how much sand we ate😂. Something I read recently (regarding the career of the Hurricane) touched on how badly abraded their canopies became in the sand pit, while the German canopies were of an apparently higher quality. One of my great aunts worked hand polishing gun turret Perspex (said they started quite rough) and another was machine gunned on her bike in rural Brum by a 109. Said she saw the arse holes face as he rolled out for another go....clear canopies then😳. Great job. If ever you need references for Army Air corps subject, give me a shout.

    Great build of a nicely detailed kit and added extras.. I haven't got this kit in the stash so can't form an opinion about it, but judging by your build, it seems to have the same good and bad sides as most of the new Airfix kits. I recently bought the OLD Airfix Stuka in 1/48 scale and it will no doubt be a less complicated build than this one, when I get round to it. I enjoyed seeing your build and the cockpit paint work shown is very useful, so thanks for that. Top effort and a beautiful model, I always like a desert scheme, well done.. :)

  • @Flingwing24
    @Flingwing24 2 місяці тому

    Hi matey. Holy thread resurrection etc😂. I have the original gavia kit with a shit ton of "correction" and "PE" parts to help. Someone mentioned the SD version not carrying a rear gun but by all accounts it went further than that Tim. The rear was pretty much gutted with a bench seat you could lift to stow kit, and a ply floor. The radio was moved as well but so little info is about and less still images of the Tempsford aircraft. This work was local mods so as likely differed anyway. Another thing people jump up and down about is the Lysander's automatic slat and flap arrangement that deploys automatically below certain air speeds. Useful if you know about it, less so if you can't get the bloody thing to land😬. Apparently they had their own technique. Working with its contemporary of sorts, the DH Beaver, it's interesting to note just how heavy the Lizzie was...blimey. The point about the slats is that invariably they are always deployed on the ground and look a sod to model, but, it is not uncommon for crews to simply push the things back in and I have seen them on the deck with them in so.... the wings mounts look a sod and I have noted the strut position holes need moving. With all that fuel behind you....hells bells. This said the Bell 47 probably would get into service these days with 48 gal of AVGAS hovering above a red hot turbocharger. A belting job of a controversial but much loved type. Nice one....in arrears😂

    • @TimsScaleModelling
      @TimsScaleModelling 2 місяці тому

      Well… that’s the longest reply I’ve ever had 😂 Yeah, I’m no expert on the Lizzie and especially not on in-the-field changes to the interior. Those slats…? She was an odd aeroplane definitely. Thanks Flingwing 👍👍

    • @Flingwing24
      @Flingwing24 2 місяці тому

      Sadly they were envisaged as an Army cooperation aircraft and got decimated with the BEF. The RAF then formed a cooperation group with them in order to stop the formation of the AOP squadrons. Alanbrooke's intervention thankfully prevented that and the solidier first ethos that has proven itself within Army aviation exists to this day. The Lizzie was doomed as an AOP but excelled in the shady world of the SOE etc. Do what you do well. Be lucky chap.

    The wing fit is better if you remove all paint from mating surfaces, eg the spar and inside surfaces. Even one thin coat of paint can throw the fit out. I had to sand off all the paint from the mating surfaces and the inside surfaces from my B-1 kit.

    Thanks for sharing. I cant recomend the AK masking putty enough for doing this kind of spray work. Also, cutting out the shapes of the mask from paper then using the masking putty to hold that onto the model gets you a beautifully precise but only slightly soft edge camo.

    • @TimsScaleModelling
      @TimsScaleModelling 3 місяці тому

      I haven’t used that masking putty, if I need a soft edge to the camo, I’d use “white tac” rolled into thin sausages and fill in with tape. I should get that putty though.

      @MF-og1ct 3 місяці тому

      @@TimsScaleModelling White tac probably works the same as the masking putty I think. Only ever used the masking putty because a lot comes in the can. I just prefer the softer edge I think.
